Description
I have a brand new unissued 1972 North Carolina license plate 2730 KN. It's original DMV sleeve is missing. It looks like the DMV sleeve had stuck to the tag on the 3 and 0, usually it scratches off with your fingernail. Slight imperfections along the border trim in places due to shelf wear over the years. If you have a 1972 automobile registered in NC, you can display this tag on your car as long as you keep your real tag in the car along with the registration. Right now 1986 is the newest you can use on your car. Here is the law concerning it, this is straight from the DMV.
You can have a Vintage tag displayed on the car, you will however have to purchase a "regular tag and registration" that must be kept in/with the car at all times so that at any time you are pulled, you will have the plate and registration card to show the vehicle is properly registered. Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle. It falls under General Statue 20-63 (d).
Please note: NOS (New Old Stock) means that is has never been mounted on a vehicle, still brand new. It does NOT always mean perfect. A lot of the NOS tags I sell were in unopened unissued boxes from the DMV that found their way to collectors over the years. I've personally seen scratches in the paint, fingerprints from the workers in the paint, slight bends on the edges, as well as other flaws straight out of the envelope with me being the first person to physically touch the tag since being produced years ago. Not all will lay perfectly flat on a table, most I've had don't. Sometimes the finish will start to yellow due to age, moreso in the 70's up. No way to know if some of the imperfections came from the workers (prisoners I've heard), shelf life over the years, or just heavy boxes being dropped between being made and to it's DMV location etc. If you are getting one of these to put on your "perfect" restoration vehicle, please feel free to request higher resolution pictures or ask questions before buying. My lighting when taking pictures is not always the best, but I try to do my best to show each tag's condition. The pictures I do take usually show the condition pretty good, though a perfectionist may sometimes disagree. I NEVER clearcoat any of my new or used tags. I do have and have bought some in collections that have been repainted, some nice some not so much. I personally do not have the hand to repaint them myself, especially the lettering. I've also heard it is a good idea to wax your tag, especially if it is really nice and you want to keep it that way.
Buyer pays .50 first class shipping or .55 priority (bubblewrap envelope, insurance) within the USA or local pickup. Please note when I ship priority, I use cardboard to help strengthen the package to help prevent it from getting damaged in transit. So far I've been lucky but I've heard stories of tags getting bent or damaged in transit. Priority would cover this where first class won't. I accept paypal.
Can meet up locally if can drive out and want to save on shipping and/or want to talk cars! If you get this feel free to shoot me a picture when you get it mounted! I'm a car guy and love to see what they go on. I have many more NC tags of different years, message me if you are looking for something specific.
