The Triplett 9601 Sniff-It 2 is a non-contact pen-style detector with pocket clip that finds and traces live wires from 5 to 600VAC, 60Hz. A flashing red LED and audible chirps indicate the presence of AC voltage. The flashes and chirps speed up as the detector nears the live voltage. A knob adjusts the sensitivity as required for the application; for example, to a higher sensitivity for lower voltage. Applications include detecting voltage in outlets, light bulb sockets, extension cords, appliances, power tools, circuit breakers, AC motors, video surveillance camera power, telephone, cablevision, light switches, and house trailer siding.
Voltage testers detect electrical current in cables, cords, circuit breakers, switches, wiring, and other components of electrical systems. They can test for live circuits, proper grounding, adequate voltage, and flowing current. They might be used by homeowners to test electrical outlets or by linemen to test power lines.
